For one thing the world has to respect the Iranian leadership: Iran doesn't play! Contrariwise it is more than clear in its messages to the world. Just as its best friend, North-Korea.
Despite the fact that Iran and North-Korea don't have anything in common (language, religion, history, food, culture, etc.) they suddenly look very much alike regarding their nuclear ambitions and their way of dealing with it face to face with the rest of the world. North-Korea is threatening South-Korea and Japan, two US-allies; Iran is threatening, sometimes openly, sometimes without saying a word, amongst other countries Israel and Saudi-Arabia, again two US-allies.
Is this some kind of late revenge for being decried over the years as two "hoodlum states", one as a fanatic communist-, the other as a sharia based dictatorship? Is this some sort of new multipolar (nuclear) Cold War?
Be it as it is, things are getting really hot. North-Korea and Iran do not seem to mess around. Both countries know exactly what they are doing and especially when they are doing what they do. It is all to obvious that Iran is being assisted by North-Korean knowledge, you just need to take a look on Farsi language media (e.g.IRNA) and you will soon notice that Iranian "diplomats" are very frequently invited to Pyongyang and vice versa.
Some Central- and South-American countries, e.g. Venezuela, Bolivia, and other global players, seem to play some role, too but the key players in the "axis of evil", as referred to by former US president George W. Bush, are definitely North-Korea and Iran. Today more than ever before.
Seems like current US president Barack Obama is starting to understand that this is no poker game, but rather a deadly real world dilemma which can explode any second if you hesitate or if you play the wrong card. What has suddenly happened that Israel has been guaranteed to make use of the Saudi airspace in case it decides to attack Iran's nuclear facilities? What has happened that US-deputy Joe Biden said yesterday: "Israel has the right to defend itself and if it feels that its existence is endangered then she will have to decide which steps to take. Steps which are in the interest of Israel. Just as we pursue our own US interests, they will have to pursue their national interests." (in my own words)
Independence Day is over. Mazel Tov. Quite clearly the US will now have to rethink its attitude and play the right cards to safeguard the independence of her allies.
Just do not play the wrong card!
