I used to believe that the International Red Cross is an organization which takes care of humanitarian issues, is completely neutral and does not discriminate any nation, any people, any specific culture, religion, race or color.
Unfortunatley, I feel that I have been totally wrong on this.
The Red Cross has absolutely done NOTHING during the last 3 years to help free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit who was aducted in a cross-border raid by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas on June 25, 2006. This happened more than 3 years ago.
His abduction, the kidnapping of two other Israeli soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser (RIP) and Eldad Regev (RIP), by the Hezbollah terrorist organization, who in a ridiculous prisoner swap gave Israel back her sons, in coffins, and the continuing rocketfire on the southern and northern regions of Israel were the main reasons for the Israeli leadership to give green light to its military to "go out and protect" Israeli citizens. This war is commonly known as the Second Lebanon War (summer of 2006).
Not much has changed since. At least concerning Gilad Shalit.
Operation Cast Lead, an Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, which was taken out during the very end of December 2008 and January 18 came after 8 years of almost uninterrupted Hamas rocket attacks on the southern Israeli cities, villages and Kibbutzim. More than 1000 Gaza residents, military men as well as civilians died; 9 Israeli soldiers and almost a dozen civilians died. Furthermore over 300 Israeli soldiers were injured and thousands of Israelis suffer from some sort of trauma till the very day.
It is more than obvious that both sides suffered, i.e. are still suffering. The Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel which leaves about 10% of the Israeli population in warlike conditions and Israel continues to block most of the border crossings and prevent international supply from reaching Gaza and its residents.
People on both sides of the border suffer. The sole responsible for all this is without any doubt the terrorist Hamas organisation which does not really give a damn about how many Gazans are suffering or dying. The main thing is that they keep the power over the Gaza Strip.
And what has the Red Cross done throughout the last 3 years? An organization which so to speak should guarantee any prisoner of war a minimum of rights, should at least insist on visiting him in order to make sure that he is ok, that he is alive.
Apparently, regarding the destiny of Gilad Shalit the Red Cross is not all too concerned.
Today the Red Cross finally made it into the headlines of Israeli newspapers because it accuses Israel of trapping 1.5 m. Gazans "in despair".
No word was said about Gilad Shalit. Not a single word!
